Where is the race?
The Millers Mutual Harrisburg Mile follows a one-mile USA track and field certified course on Front Street in Harrisburg. The starting line is at Front & Maclay Streets by the Governor’s Mansion. The Half Pint Half Mile starts just south of Hamilton Street. All participants are responsible for getting to the starting line prior to their event heat. The finish line is at Front & Boas Streets.

Where is the Harrisburg YMCA located?
The Harrisburg YMCA is located at 701 North Front Street in Harrisburg.

Directions to YMCA:
FROM RT. 83 - Take the Second Street exit. Continue along Second Street until you reach the traffic light at the intersection of North and Second Streets. Turn left at this light. The main entrance of the YMCA is located a half block down on the left.

FROM RT. 81 - Take the Front Street exit. Continue down Front Street towards Harrisburg. The YMCA is located on your left just past the traffic light at Front and Forster Streets. Turn left onto North Street. The YMCA main entrance is immediately on your left.

 

What about parking?
Parking is available on the streets surrounding the YMCA as well as at the start and finish areas. The parking lot at the YMCA will also be open for the event, however space is limited. The lot is located off of Second Street, behind the YMCA. The parking lot entrance is on the left just past the intersection of North and Second Streets.

What heat categories are run?
There are 13 different mile heats in the race schedule including a Half Pint Half Mile, Elite Mile, Masters Elite, Corporate Challenge and Just for Fun Mile/Walk.

Can I just run for fun?
That's what the Just for Fun Mile/Walk is all about! The Millers Mutual Harrisburg Mile brings together an eclectic mix of participants, ranging from competitive runners to families and active seniors.

How will the timing chips be distributed?
On race day participants will be able to pick up their timing chips prior to the start of their heat. Once you have received your race packet, you will need to go to the chip distribution area at the finish line near Front & Boas Street to pick up your timing chip.

Be sure to stop at the finish line before going to the starting line. No timing chips will available at the starting line. 

How are the chips attached?
The chips are encased in a plastic unit that can be attached to your shoe lacess in a variety of ways. Self-locking ties will be available at the chip table if you wish to use them. You can also tie the chip onto your shoelace.

What happens if I lose or don’t return the chip?
All participants are responsible for returning the timing chip assigned to them after they complete their race. A special chip collection area will be set up at the finish line.

If you do not return the chip, you will be charged $35.00 for every chip that is not returned on race day.

What if I’m running more than one heat?
Each chip has a unique tracking number which is assigned to your race number and will track your time during any heat that you participate in during the Harrisburg Mile. So, you only need one chip to record all your times.

How does the chip timing work?
Special electronic mats will be stretched across the start and finish lines. As participants cross over the mats, their individual time is recorded. The finish line computer system then subtracts the starting time from the finish time and creates a new "net time" or "chip time." The chip timing method compensates for any lost time that runners in the back of the starting pack experienced at the starting line. You can learn more about the technology by clicking here.

What if my Corporate Challenge Team has less than 5 members?
Each corporate team includes up to 5 members. The winning team will have the best combined time for all members. Teams with fewer than five members must repeat the slowest member’s time to equal a team combination of five.

Will prizes be awarded?
The Half Pint Half Mile participants and children age 12 and under will receive a special recognition award. First, second and third place male, female and team winners will be awarded for the following race categories: 10 & under, 11-15, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60+, Corporate Challenge, Elite 24 & under, Eite 25-39, and Elite 40+. No prizes are awarded for the Just for Fun Mile/Walk.

Where and when is the awards ceremony?
An awards ceremony for the Millers Mutual Harrisburg Mile will be held immediately following the Elite heat (approx. 8:15 p.m.) at Riverfront Park, near the finish line. Runners will be able to get their individual times and receive their awards. The entire 2009 race results will be posted on the web site www.harrisburgmile.com several days after the race.

What is the Elite and Master's Elite event?
The Elite Mile is the most competitive heat of the Millers Mutual Harrisburg Mile. The qualifying time for ages 39 and under is 4:40 for Men and 5:30 for Women.

The qualifying time for Elite runners 40 years of age and older. is 5:00 for Men and 6:00 for Women.

Where can I change before the race?
Locker rooms, with shower facilities, will be available for participants at the Harrisburg YMCA, located at Front and North Streets.
